We need more research that focuses on Texas karst country, such as mycorrhizal fungi relations among different plants, the ability of this region to sink carbon, and the distribution of Juniperus hybrids, to improve the planning process. Project Bedrock will help instigate and potentially partner with efforts to conduct this much needed research.

Studies are needed to establish guidelines for a landowner or contractor to determine karst degradation/health. These guidelines vary depending on soil depths and regional locations. The EAA is currently conducting the research. Since it won't be available for 5-10 years, Project Bedrock hopes to establish estimated soil metrics to help guide land management decisions.

Apply analysis method developed in Kentucky to determine the carbon sinking potential of Texas karst country. If the potential exists, initiate a more complex study to compare degraded vs. healthy watersheds for carbonate carbon sinking potential. Doing these studies could increase carbon credit funding for landowners.
